One Today At A Time
At an AA meeting the other day, one of the speakers pointed out that ‘one day at a time’ includes the past as well. This concept brought on a whole shift in perspective for me, as i’d always thought of the expression in terms of “i only have to worry about not taking a drink today. Tomorrow is another problem.”
“One day at a time” includes my past as well. i don’t worry about tomorrow, but neither do i worry about yesterday.
Let yesterday heal the past and tomorrow worry about the future. Today is all i can manage.

Wow, great insight! I’ll have to keep that in mind as I approach starting over, finally, and letting go of my past drinking mistakes… Thank you for posting!!!
What a cute little picture!! Oh must’ve been a First Grader doing their 100 Day schtick (some parents will know about that — your kids are in school in Yeaman and I don’t think they do the 100 Day thing there).
So yeah — that is a really, really good point. Eckhart Tolle has written a lot about this idea in The Power of Now.
Most of all, now I can’t stop thinking about this:
That was a cute show.

Thanks for the visit, babe.
i’m not sure” about the 100 Days thing, but looks like the teacher is the one who prompted “What will you be doing when you’re 100 years old”
Yeah, you’re right, it must be a non-Yeaman thing!
Keep coming back,

Thanks for this post Bro, hit close to home with me and I am stealing some of your thoughts for use in helping out somebody else. I think we forget sometimes that the past can be just as overwhelming as trying to deal with a concept of a long term future.
Great Post, I envy your intellect and am happy I get to steal the occasional gem to use for myself.
Hey my Brother!
It’s not my thought to steal, so it’s all good. And i’m not an intellectual, i just play one on this blog. i’m a simple guy in recovery who’s wobbling on the shoulders of giants.
Still, keep coming back,

Thank you for another eye opener and I dont mean drink!
It is so easy to get caught up in the woulda, shoula and couldas of any situation that didn’t go as planned. Repeats inthemoment times infinity.
Thanks again…L.
Glad i could help! It never pays to wallow, neither in booze or the past. i’m just here to repeat what i learn!
Keep coming back,
Al K Hall
